Fred Lieb scrapbooks : scrapbook, 1919-1930; 1937-1941.

Two scrapbooks created by Fred Lieb mainly concentrating on his career in journalism and the "House of Peace", a religious "cult" formed by Lieb and his wife. The volumes contain newspaper clippings, newspaper photos, magazine articles, magazine photos, correspondence, and black-and-white photographs. Items of note in vol. 1 (1919-1930) include a photo of Lieb with Babe Ruth, Lieb with John McGraw, and an autographed photo of John Heydler, who was National League President at the time. This scrapbook has many photos of Lieb and other baseball writers in Canada hunting moose. The aim of the Canadian organizer was to help spread baseball into Canada. There is an article about a game between the Newspaper Club and Baseball Writers Association; the writers are lambasted by their collegue. Lieb was part of the Christy Walsh syndicate. Vol. 2 (1937-1941, bulk 1937-1939) is dedicated to Lieb's religious organization.

Fred Lieb was a longtime sportswriter who began his career in 1911. During his career, Lieb worked for the New York Press, New York Post, New York Morning Sun, New York Telegram, The Sporting News, and the St. Petersburg Times. Lieb was active in the National and New York chapters of the Baseball Writers Association, serving for three and five years respectively.
